Hobbit Costumes

On any typical evening or weekend, my best friend and I have a pretty intense nightlife.  We crochet and drink tea, and sometimes we even stay up after 11 o'clock.  It's great, and we love the schedule and routine, and only one thing can, without fail, keep us up past our bedtimes.

That one thing--midnight premieres of movies or books.

So, for your viewing pleasure, I present the grainy cell phone images of our excursion to see The Hobbit the night that it came out.

I'm on the right, best friend is to the left.  Gandalf is in the middle.

I think one of the highlights of the evening (other than the amazing film--that goes without saying), was wandering around town all evening, dressed as hobbits.

I love pretty much all insects, and I have a real soft spot for pollinators.  My internship, my senior thesis research, and my post-graduation summer job (which will hopefully turn into a more permanent research position--keep your fingers crossed for me!) were all in the field of bee research, so when I found this adorable flannel at Joann's, I just couldn't resist buying myself some to make pajamas pants out of.

I think that as this blog progresses, you'll begin to realize that I have a thing for pajamas.  I'm pretty sure that I own more pajamas than the average person.  At least I can say that I made most of my own pajamas?  So they're all wonderfully geeky and cute.  That's definitely a plus.

When I was home over Easter break, my mother brought home several large boxes of fabric from one of her coworkers.  In one of the boxes, I found a bolt of Captain America print, and I just couldn't resist it.  I made this apron for my best friend, who loves to bake, and I'm pretty proud of the result.

My bass makes a beautiful model.

Detail of the pocket and strap.  I think that I did a decent job at matching the pocket pattern to the rest of the apron.

Now, my only question is what I should do with the rest of the bolt?  I still have a few yards of this, and I'm just itching to make something else.

Back in February, I went to Joann's and found a rack of delightful Star Trek fabrics.  I was so thrilled, and I grabbed a yard of one, even though I had no project in mind.  After a few days, I decided to make a pair of sleep boxers.

I thought the bows were a nice touch.  :)
A few weeks ago, I found myself on crutches due to a sprained ankle.  The lack of mobility drove me insane, as I am usually on the go at all times, but I think that I made good use of some of the down time.  I made a set of decorative arm rest and hand grip cushions for my crutches.

The accessories for my crutches made them a little more bearable, but luckily, I'm back on my feet now.  :)

An Introduction

Greetings!  I've decided to move my craft blogging here.  I currently post my pictures on tumblr (which I'll still do), but I was hoping to find a more interactive community here.

I guess now would be a good time to tell you a bit about myself. My name is Elizabeth, and I am a twenty-something, currently finishing up the final few weeks of my undergraduate at a tiny little college in Pennsylvania.  I major in environmental science, with minors in biology, chemistry, and German.  I find inspiration in just about everything and am generally over-enthusiastic.

I dabble in a variety of crafts, although my main projects lately have been sewing and crocheting.  I plan on picking up my beadwork again soon, but for now, that has fallen to the wayside.  Anyway, I'll be posting my projects here, and hopefully I'll quickly get to know the sewing/crafting community here.
