Avengers-Lined Corduroy Bag

I love this bag, based on the "Weekend Bag" pattern from Weekend Sewing —it’s super roomy and it appears to be a normal, adult bag from the outside… And then you open the bag, and Marvel characters are staring out at you.

I made one of these for myself and one for a close friend.  My mother saw the bags and wanted one as well.  However, she requested a floral lining instead of an Avengers one.  I can't imagine why.
It was actually quite interesting to make these bags.  I normally use a White "jeans machine" from the 1990s, but it started really struggling with the thickness in the handles and bindings, which was hugely frustrating.  Eventually, I tried using my mum's 1960s Kenmore, and it worked like a charm.  I guess you can't beat those old steel machines for heavy duty sewing.

And while I haven't really tested my tote bag too much (I normally use mine to carry my crocheting, wallet, and keys when I go out with friends), but my best friend uses hers for the huge stack of textbooks that she carries to class every day, and it seems to be holding up fine.  So that's definitely a success.
